Some valuable guidance slogans by Chennai City Traffic Police

Some valuable guidance slogans by Chennai City Traffic Police
Chennai City Traffic Police have  put a lot of valuable slogans at vantage points in the city to bring traffic rules awareness amongst the public. A few things about avoiding drunken driving and avoiding mobile phones whilst driving were really thought-provoking. I just thought I would compile a few and share it amongst the readers. Let us try to spread the word to others and help the Chennai City Traffic Police in their mission to accomplish safe roads.
  1. "Don't pickup mobile while driving. The caller might also be the 'Lord of Death'". [Translated into English]. "
    வாகனம் ஓட்டும்போது செல்போன் எடுக்காதே. கூப்பிடுவது எமனாகவும் இருக்கலாம்."
  2. "Bad luck might cross you if you don't cross at zebra crossing"
  3. "If you go to the bar don't enter the car"
  4. "Don't Mix -- Drink and Drive"
  5. "Missing a call will not kill you"
  6. "மெதுவாகச் செல்; மனைவி காத்திருப்பாள் வீட்டில்" [English Translation: Drive slowly. Your family is awaiting you]

When did Blue become white

When did Blue become white
A week back whilst commuting from Tambaram to Guindy I had to witness an interesting passenger. No sooner did she board a bus than she tendered a three rupee for the next five kilometer bus stop. The bus was a deluxe bus and the minimum fare was INR 5.
But she was asking a simple question 'When did you paint the board blue that fast from white?' In Chennai, deluxe buses are painted with blue boards and normal ordinary buses have a white color boards to indicate their type.
Just thought I would share this interesting passenger quote with other readers.

Squatting on Cyber and Physical Premises seems to be the fashion of the day...

Squatting on Cyber and Physical Premises seems to be the fashion of the day...
Be it Internet or a public transportation footboard or a open poromboke (waste land) or a lake area, one can find illegal people occupying the space with great vigor and interest without caring for the general interests of the public. The following are the responses of such squatters:
  1. Internet: You can see a number of domain parked sites with reputed industry names too stuck with them. Due to geographical distributions and multi-country legislations recovery seems to be little difficult from such cybersquatters.
  2. Public Transportation Footboard Travellers: Despite the fact that they endanger their own lives and limb by travelling on the footboard, they put a big danger to the work of the crew who need to visit the police station and court if something happens to them alongwith the unwanted delays for other passengers not to mention the burden they give to their own families.
  3. Waste Land Occuption: With much connivance of officials many of the lake areas typically in places like Ambattur are auctioned off and sold for many years. Only when the party-in-power changes, these come out to limelight but even then the political bureocratic red tape processes are loaded with so much inertia that offenders are let go scott-free.

Classic Music/Dance Academies in Chennai

Classic Music/Dance Academies in Chennai
Whatever be the modern westernization in Chennai, the classic Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music always eternally has a great tale to tell us and shoulder to share regarding a great peace of mind Whilst commuting from Tambaram to Guindy sometime on Sunday, I observed a dance academy in Pallikaranai teaching Bharatanatyam. It is called Kalaalaya. You can find more details of the academy from their website here.
At this juncture, I would also like to recall that there is one more famous school for classical dance and music in Chennai put up near Besant Nagar. It is called 'Kalakshetra'. You can find more details about them over here.
I just thought I would share these with other readers so that from this new year, we can have our kids enrolled in these academies as extra-curricular activities (other than regular school) which would improve their softskills greatly.

Two more petrol bunks to add color to Madipakkam-Kovilambakkam stretch

Two more petrol bunks to add color to Madipakkam-Kovilambakkam stretch
Today whilst commuting through Kovilambakkam-Madipakkam stretch, I happened to notice two new petrol bunks which have been commissioned to business respectively near Kovilambakkam and Radial Road. The two belong to Bharat Petroleum. The latter bunk also is very near to Indian Oil Petrol Bunk which has an Indian Bank ATM in its campus.
These should help the stretch more safer for travel anytime of the day.

An evening visit to the dentist ...

An evening visit to the dentist ...
As per the telephonic appointment with the dentist on Saturday, I had to visit him today to address one tooth which was bearing the brunt of a big cavity and hence acute pain frequently.
After a hectic travel through the traffic-laden Vadapalani and Valasaravakkam, I reached the clinic on time to have the requests serviced and return back home around 2200 hours.

An afternoon trip to Thiruneermalai temple towards Vaikunta Ekadasi day

An afternoon trip to Thiruneermalai temple towards Vaikunta Ekadasi day
Today being Vaikunta Ekadasi, I just thought of having a quick visit to Thiruneermalai temple which has four dieties:
As usual, Chennai City Traffic Police  seemed to have screwed up the bus arrangements near Pallavaram depot. The bus to Thiruneermalai, Thirumudivakkam SIDCO Industrial Estate and Pazhanthandalam would take the opposite direction towards Airport, take a U-turn and then come and join the Pallavaram from inside near Hotel Manickam Grand. I managed to reach the temple at around 1315 hours. After a little wait in the queue for thirty minutes in the hillock temple, I could manage to get the darshan of the Lord at the hillock and the foothills temple also.
Again in Thiruneermalai, the buses no longer go near the hillock and you would need to go to the end of South Mada Street bus stop to ensure more frequency of buses. Thanks to MTC for the subsidized bus tickets and cut services from Pallavaram to Thiruneermalai at every five minute interval towards managing the Vaikunta Ekadasi crowd. I reached back Pallavaram around 1530 hours and after having some quick bites reached back workplace around 1600 hours.

Next time you visit More Store, try to see if you can purchase AVT Tea packet. They have an exciting offer of a excellent steel tumbler which is exquitely designed and of good quality too.
The store guy actually showed me the offer and compared to other brands this seems to be good and lucrative offer too.

More equips me with a 'Club More' Card

More equips me with a 'Club More' Card
I frequently visit either the More supermarket in Gowrivakkam or Kaiveli (near Madipakkam-Velachery junction). Today in my visit to the stores, they asked me to fill up a small form and gave me a small card and I was instructed that on every shopping to show the card so that some more discounts on select items could be availed. This is besides points accrual on the card and after few points approval, we can get some exciting gifts from the stores. They also advised me that I can flash the card in any more supermarket purchase.
I just thought I would share this with other readers too so that you can avail the Club More membership card on your next visit to the store.
