Artificial Traffic Snarls in Chennai

Artificial Traffic Snarls in Chennai
These days I see that important places like Velachery Vijayanagar, Camp Road (Selayur), Saidapet, T. Nagar seems to be reeling under acute traffic congestions. We admit that Chennai City Traffic Police  are doing their best to regulate and ensure a free flow of traffic in the city and its suburbs. But there are a few things that I witness frequently and which have been remaining unanswered. I just thought I would share the same with other readers so that it would be an eye-opener for everyone commuting in the city of Chennai.
  1. When there is a slight downpour and after it stops there is a great commotion all over. People do rampant redlight jumps throwing indiscipline unleashed and safety to the air. I believe four wheelers should ensure unabated by rains etc because they are not personally disturbed by the rains because they have wipers and and other latest gadgets to protect them from getting wet. This attitude to save a little traffic.
  2. After the rains and during inclement conditions, the police patrol and traffic sergeants seems to be mysteriously missing. This also compounds to the issue outline in (1).
  3. In important junctions like Velachery and particularly between stretches like MRTS to Vijayanagar terminus there are clear lanes earmarked eventhough the road is small. There are traffic lights too to stop and regulate the traffic. I even see a few cops manning the junction. Nevertheless the traffic condition is crazy here. This might be because of the undue patronage extended by the traffic cops to the autos who 'grease their palms illegally' almost on a daily basis. This occurs even when closed circuit cameras have been instituted in this important junction. I have personally reported this in CCTP website but there hasn't been any improvement whatsoever.

We even doubt the attitude of CCTP staff is shoo-shooing away MTC drivers but showing a 'kind-hearted' gesture to autos because of these 'patronage' from them in that they (CCTP) is trying to cultivate some sort of animosity in the minds of commuters towards public transporation so that a good chunk of them would favor of autos and private transportation and during that occasion they can rise more chargesheets on them for offences of different kinds thus augmenting their revenue through books and also that comes in illegally into the cops' pockets.

Chennai roads have been good to commute once upon a time. Because of mismanagement by authorities and callousness of cops one is really getting pissed off like anything. This even makes me thing whether the entity like 'M Shakeel Akther', who claims himself as Joint Traffic Commissioner of Police in CCTP is really a live figure or just another hallucinatory fictious character proposed by CCTP. Unless CCTP makes some earnest endeavor to improve and decongest the Chennai Traffic, I don't think their image is going to improve amongst the public even an iota. As commuters to workaround the melee, we would need to plan our trips/travels well in advance so that our schedules are met without any delays.
